Volubilis - localisation et histoire




Volubilis, situé à l'époque moderne Maroc, est maintenant un site partiellement fouillé de la ville puis romaine de 40 AD. Célèbres choses à voir




Ce lieu a été inclus dans la liste du patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO et se vante d'un certain nombre d'attractions célèbres. Les structures les mieux préservés de cet endroit sont un forum romain, une basilique du IIe siècle et l'arc de Caracalla, qui remonte à 217 AD. Les colonnes de ce forum dressent encore intacts et la basilique peut être vu avec des restes de ses remparts, qui sont plus de 30 pieds de hauteur. Les célèbres vestiges de ce site sont ses sols de mosaïques, dont Diana Bath, travaux d'Hercule, Orpheus mosaïques et Néréides.




Volubilis signifie littéralement Oualili (fleurs de laurier-rose) en langue berbère, comme la terre de ce site prend en charge la croissance d'un grand nombre de plantes de lauriers roses et d'oliviers. Cet endroit est également connu sous le nom de Oualila et Ksar Pharoun (Palais de Pharaon) en langue arabe.




Excavation et restauration




Le site a subi des destructions massives à la suite d'un tremblement de terre au IVe siècle. Les fouilles de ce site ont été lancées par les Français de 1912 à 1956. Autres restauration a été réalisée entre 1930 et 1967. En 1997, cet endroit a été classé au patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO.
