Moroccan Beaches

Moroccan Beaches
Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea

There are many beautiful Moroccan Beaches to show you. Morocco on Western Africa is blessed by two coastlines, the Atlantic Ocean on the west and the Mediterranean Sea on the north. This long shoreline provides for amazing beaches. Tourism from Europe to Morocco is on the rise for years.

Grottes d’Hercules Beach on the Atlantic coast of Tangier

Moroccan Beaches on the Atlantic Ocean

• Dakhla Beach is located on the Western Sahara Atlantic coast and it is widely covered by fishermen. It is great for photographers because of its attractive scenery and colorful wooden fisherman’s boats.

This beach is not suitable for swimming or sunbathing.

• Grottes d’Hercules Beach is situated on the Atlantic coast of Tangier. The place is clean and invites tourists. During the summer months of July and August it is pretty busy and crowded.

It is important to note that the waters on the Atlantic side of Tangier are much colder than those on the Mediterranean coast.

Moroccan Beaches on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean
• El Jadida Beach is located on the Atlantic coast. It is 100 km distance from the inland city of Marrakech and it is considered its beach. The beach is also near the coastal important city of Casablanca.

Lalla Fatma beach is located about 10km north of Safi on the Atlantic coast. It is considered the cleanest and most popular beach in Morocco. It is great for sun tanning relaxing, but the waters are not safe for swimming.

Agadir Beach is located on the southwest Atlantic coast and has some of the most beautiful beaches in Morocco.

Like many Atlantic beaches is has long stretches of sands and here you may enjoy swimming, sun bathing and practice many popular water sports like windsurfing, kite surfing, wakeboarding or jet skiing, you can be sure that the right waves are waiting for you. Agadir Morocco is one of my choices.

Moroccan Beaches on the Mediterranean

The Mediterranean coast of Morocco runs from Tangier Morocco on the west to Saidia on the border with Algeria on the east.

On the portion between Tangier and Al Hoceima, the beaches are surrounded by calm and warm waters and some of them are quiet and intimate.

Most of the beaches here are like postcards in beauty and idyllic in nature.

On this Mediterranean coast from Tangier to Saidia there are 120 beaches facing the warm Mediterranean waters.

Tangier Town Beach is located on the corner where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean just on the Strait of Gibraltar.

This beautiful beach is surrounded by mountains and white washed houses of tangier on the background.

The beach is not the cleanest but still very popular.

Plage Quemada is located in the center of the Rif Mountains on the Mediterranean coastline in the north of Morocco.

Plage Quemada beach has a reputation for always being busy and crowded. It is very clean.

Asfiha Beach is also located in the center of the Rif Mountains on the Mediterranean coastline in the north of Morocco.

This beach is not recommended for swimming because it is covered by dirty and sticky sands.

Larache Beach, located on the Tangier Tetouan area is a very clean beach and great for swimming, although the waves could be sometimes dangerous.

There are lifeguards on duty. But I always recommend caution and swimming at your own risk.

Moroccan Beaches on the Mediterranean shoreline

• Essaouira Morocco is a charming and bohemian beach. It is laid back and relaxed. It features blue shuttered white washed houses, a charming fishing port and many art galleries. It is home to the annual Gnaoua music festival. Many consider this beach the friendliest and most laid back beach resort in Morocco.

Al Hoceima beach is known for scenic strolls and clean, clear waters. It is surrounded by hills in the shadow of the beautiful Rif Mountains. It is a charming Mediterranean resort with many beaches in town and out surrounded by hills with olive groves. Germans and French sun seekers are the main visitors from Europe. During summer the beaches can become very crowded.

Marrakech Golf Breaks

Marrakech Golf Breaks

Tajine Cookery Class - Visit a local market to buy fresh produce before you discover the secrets to the various spices and ingredients used in Moroccan cooking while learning to make Moroccan salads, tajines or couscous. At the end of your class, feast on your achievements!  You will be collected from your hotel at 9.00am and transferred to a riad in the medina. Here you’ll learn the Arabic words for the ingredients for your recipe of the day. Afterwards, head to the souq and mix with the local Marrakeshi as you shop for the fresh produce for your meal; meat and vegetables, herbs and spices that form the basis of Moroccan cuisine. Then head back to the riad for your hands-on cookery class.

Easy Hike to the Tin-Mal Mosque (Private Tour) - The stunning Tin Mal mosque is the prize at the end of this history-filled hike through beautiful Valley of Ljoukak.  This three hour ramble takes place in the decaying riverside Kasbah of a once powerful feudal chieftain.  The romantic ruins still retain some traces of grandeur in the original Hispano-Arabesque decoration.  The trek continues to past the castle of Agadir n’Gouf which became an outpost of the French Foreign Legion in the 1920’s and crosses the hauntingly beautiful Valley of ljoukak before arriving at the small remote stronghold settlement of Tin Mal.
The Mosque is the sole survivor of a once holy 12th-Century City and only one of two in the whole of Morocco into which non-Muslims may enter (except on Fridays).  Although the Mosque is now roofless, this only adds to the mystery and austerity of the place and the warm sun casts strong shadows from the horseshoe arches creating a playground for any photographer.A riverside picnic lunch is included on the return journey along with glimpses of further ruins on this thoroughly enjoyable and evocative hike.

Horse Riding in La Palmaraie - An enjoyable horseback tour through the lush palm grove of Marrakech.  Located in the north-east corner of the city, La Palmeraie is a true oasis with a hundred thousand trees providing shade from the hot African sun.

Marrakech City Discovery - Enjoy a walking tour through Marrakech’s medina and markets, an area unchanged for hundreds of years. Along the way pick up a memento or two. Afterwards, join the locals at a hamam for a scrub, massage and steam! An experience not to be missed on any Moroccan adventure.

Start your morning in the region of Gueliz, home to some of the city’s most stylish boutiques, hip restaurants, bars and gardens. Your first stop is the Theatre Royal. Then travel on to discover the Jnane El Harti Park, originally laid out as a formal French garden and zoo.  Crossing over Place du 16 Novembre, see the latest phase of urban regeneration in the city. Then visit the local street Marche Municipal and explore its abundance of flower stalls, foods and ceramics.
Take a break over lunch at Djemma el Fna and relax with a local family at the medina.  Recharged, it’s time to head down colourful rue Riad Zitoun El Kedim and Maison Tiskwin to see a fascinating private collection of crafts and decorative arts from southern Morocco and the Sahara. Then visit the Palais De Bahia, a haven of shady courtyards and blue mosaic walls built for Bou Ahmed. The palace also includes beautiful quarters for his 4 wives and 24 concubines.

Pass through the Jewish Quarter and visit the Palais El Badi constructed during the reign of Sultan Ahmed El Mansour in 1578 and the Saddian Tombs another monument of that same era.  Finally head back to Djemma el Fna Square where the tour finishes. Your local guide can provide instructions on how to get back to your hotel or you can continue your shopping in the local souqs.

Marrakech Medina, Palaces & Tombs - Discover the medina and experience life as it has been for hundreds of years. In the souqs learn about the different industries that make the Old City so unique. Visit the city gates, palaces, tombs, museums and Kotoubia Mosque. Finish at Djemma el-Fna, filled with snake charmers, musicians and market stalls.

Hammam & Market Explorer - Explore medina life as it has been for hundreds of years, enjoy a traditional Moroccan hamam and gommage and see the sights of world heritage site Djemma el-Fna Square. Here you can explore the stalls of jewellery makers and fabric dyers and mingle with locals shopping for fresh produce.
Start your tour at Djemma el-Fna Square where at night you will find hundreds of food stalls, acrobats, snake charmers and gnaoua musicians entertaining the crowds from here, visit the many souqs and medinas of Marrakech and explore the different industries. Mingle with locals selling fresh vegetables, herbs and spices and see the quarters of the carpenters, wood turners and dyers. There’s even a souq des babouches (slippers) and of course leather and jewellery makers. There’s plenty of opportunity along the way to pick up some handicrafts and practice your bartering as you explore.
Finally head to the hamam where you can experience the traditional Moroccan social custom of a weekly steam, massage and scrub.  Your local guide will leave you once you've entered the hamam and can provide instructions on how to get back to your hotel or you can continue your shopping in the local souks.

Western Ourika Valley & Oukaimeden Hike (Private Tour) - Teeming with lush vegetation, palmeraies, steep gorges and terraced Berber Hamlets, the Ourika Valley is one of the most stunning hikes to be had in this part of the world.  Five or six hours of easy rambling await you on this stunning trek.  Wander between Berber hamlets which are sometimes precariously located to make the most of the climate and soil conditions.
You will set out in a grand circle taking in some of the best natural sites Morocco has to offer.  A picnic lunch will be served at about the half way stage beside refreshing waterfalls before you continue on your journey enjoying even more exquisite panoramas of the distant mountains.  Make sure you take a camera!

Quad Biking in Marrakech - Take an exhilarating ride through the lush green oasis of the Marrakech Palmeraie.  Reaching speeds of up to 80 kilometres per hour, quad bikes are by far the most fun you can have on four wheels. With a low centre of gravity and over-sized tyres even a novice can get adventurous. Just a stones throw from Marrakech, this fantastic trail winds and twists through sand and bush, towering palms and past berber hamlets reminding you of the exotic location.  A fantastic half-day of thrills complimented by stunning scenery and African sunshine.

Nightlife in Marrakech - Marrakech is famous for its vibrant nightlife. It presents a large range of contemporary clubs to traditional dinner dances.  The medina is likely to draw the most attention in the evenings when you will find Jemaa el Fna Square coming to life with performing artists, outdoor cafes and rows upon rows of food sellers. There are many restaurants with terraces that overlook the square.
In Marrakech most of the best bars and nightclubs are situated in Gueliz. These are either serving in the large hotels or along the Avenue Mohammed V. But remember, there is almost always an entry fee for the clubs and discos. Here you will see the dress code is generally pretty casual. Most of the clubs play Western pop music with some local flavor thrown in for good measure.

Nightclubs in Marrakech - There are several nightclubs in Marrakech which will provide you the essence of Marrakech nights.
Before Le Montecristo
This nightclub is a local favorite of the Marrakechis. Laurence Corsin has positively succeeded with the decoration of this fashionable club. Just order tapas and other snacks in the recently opened summer room.
Golf Breaks Marrakech

Club Bustane
If you are looking for live music and a good Moroccan ambiance, just visit this well-furnished club. The Club Bustane is open during the day and closes around midnight. Free entry is available here.

Club Sherzad
Behind the Kenzah Hotel lies the Club Sherzad which gets going around midnight.

Cotton Club Marrakech
This club is filled with a blend of weekenders from Casablanca and foreigners. It is relatively “European”.

Triangle d'Or - this is one of the favorite hang outs not only for the local dwellers but also for travelers from all over the globe. Along with dance and music, here you can also enjoy other refreshments such as your dinner accompanied with wines.

New Feeling Dance Club Marrakech
This is one of the favourite clubs in Marrakech.  This club is a bit more expensive than others but the style and service is a touch superior too. If you are staying in the medina you will need a taxi to reach this club.   The restaurant Ca ié is adjacent.
