Moroccan wedding blankets~a happy indulgence
A tinkly jingly spangled wedding blanket, vintage, from the Atlas Mountains.
Hand loomed wool~a heavy warmth that the Berber's created to keep warm on those cold desert nights.
These blankets have special talismanic powers woven into the threads, to protect the bride and groom. I thought that was appropriate.
This particular one that sung to me has found it's home on our guest room bed, as a bedscarf.
And look, quite a Nick Bantock effect when you throw vintage postcards on top-Best regards, George 1914
George was in Pompeii, in 1914. I love that stuff.
If you would love one of these scrumptious blankets for yourself, or a loved one to give as a Holiday gift...then please visit Maryam at My Marrakesh, or email maryam@mtds.com for more information. I promise you this, it is more than an investment, it is a treasure.

MOROCCAN WEDDING BLANKETS
MOROCCAN WEDDING BLANKETS have the same ring to it. Does it? How are you darlings?!?! I am so sorry I was absent yesterday. Call the truancy officer. I will never do it to you guys again. I missed you all so much. It was a whirlwind of a weekend, but we have finally arrived at our final destination for good. A couple of things. 1. The boy graduated from law school this weekend with top honors. I could not be more proud. Seriously. 2. We finally packed up our last things (and were forced to leave some) last night and headed home to our new home for good. Richmond. 3. How in the hell is Blogfest going? I feel so out of the loop. I hope all of you are having a FAB time! Let's get to it.
So remember my master bedroom debacle? I had three aesthetics that I was toying around with, but I have finally arrived on the winner. You all have already been clued in on the plan for the headboard. I have decided to go the route of understated glam in our bedroom. I want all whites, creams, golds and silvers. Anything glitz, glam and metallic. Really. I want to keep the bedding simplistic and versatile with go to staples but also add an accessory with a twist. What might that be? The Moroccan Wedding Blanket. It is non-negotiable. It is happening. I love the pattern, texture and old world feel it brings to a space. It is so whimsical and brings such a special feel to anything it touches. For purposes of ease, I shall name it the MWB (Moroccan Wedding Blanket). But in effort to not be as annoying as Rachel Ray, I will not repeat the actual meaning of the acronym every time I mention the acronym. Promise.
Look at this amazing boho glam space. I love the mixture of whites,creams and metal. The bedding is everything I am going for. Look how gorg that blanket is. You cannot deny.
{decor pad}
Another beautiful MWB at play here. It is such a subtle accessory but doesn't it add so much character here? Loving all of the animal print/fur at play here. For serious.
{bit o honey}
Ahhhnn. None other than the fabulous JA at play here. Shocker. Another gorgeous MWB I shall steal. This one happens to bring a little more brown into the room but is nonetheless fabulous. Who is loving that leopard print bench? I could use it as a mock fainting couch. I am such an improviser.
The Parker Palm Springs by Jonathan Adler
Lovely space. Lovely florals. Lovely Moroccan. It is the perfect compliment to this feminine space. Instead of using this as an accent at the end of the bed, they used it on the ENTIRE bed. Too much? Never.
{decor pad}
I have to say. This MWB seen here, may be my very favorite. If anyone has seen ANYTHING like this...I mean ANYTHING, please let me know. It would be treated as an emergency.
{Lonny}
Lovely MWB on a daybed.
{Lonny}
What a fun, bright and eclectic space. Obviously a musician resides here. A very stylish one. I am pained that a guitar and a plate of apricots are covering up that glamorous MWB. Shame on them.
{pinterest}
Another fabulously feminine space. Another fabulous MWB. Is anyone else loving that chinoiserie wallpaper as much as I am? The Asian details are killing it.
{luuux}
Gorgeous neutral space glammed up with a MWB.
{laviva home}
So do you see what I am talking about? I cannot resist. Cannot. I have a few that I have my eyes on. One in particular from my girl crush Amber Lewis from Amber Lewis Design. Obsessed with her. Need this piece from her collection once I have $395 bones sitting around. I might die without it.

Some other fabulous pieces that I have my greedy eyes on are these awesome vintage MWB's by Red Thread Souk. It is an awesome store that has amazing exotic carpets, blankets and home decor. My new obsession.

djellaba man
Djellaba (Berber: Jellaba; Darija: (جلابة)) (also djellabah, galabiya, jellāb(a))[1] is a Berber traditional long, loose-fitting unisex outer robe with full sleeves worn in the Maghreb region of North Africa and in Arabic-speaking countries along the Mediterranean.
A djellaba worn in Fes, Morocco
Traditionally djellabas are made of wool in different shapes and colors though nowadays lightweight textile djellabas have replaced wool djellabas in emigrant communities in the West, e.g., Paris, Brussels, et cetera. Among the Berbers, or Imazighen, such as Imilchil in the Atlas Mountains, the color of a djellaba indicates the marital status (single or married) of the bearer—a dark brown djellaba indicating bachelorhood.[citation needed] Traditionally, djellabas reached down to the ground but the lightweight textile djellabas are somewhat slimmer and shorter. Men often wear a light-colored djellaba sometimes along with a red fez hat and soft yellow slippers (balgha, Arabic: بلغه, or babouche) for religious celebrations and weddings.
Almost all djellabas of both styles (male or female) include a baggy hood called a qob (Arabic : قب) that comes to a point at the back. The hood is of vital importance for both sexes, as it protects the wearer from the sun, and in earlier times was used as a defense against sand being blown into the wearer's face by strong desert winds. In colder climes, as in the mountains of Morocco and Algeria, it also serves the same function as a winter hat, preventing heat loss through the head and protecting the face from snow and rain. It is not uncommon for the roomy hood to be used as an informal pocket during times of nice weather; it can fit loaves of bread or bags of groceries.
Traditional djellabas are generally made of two types of material, cotton for summer wear and coarse wool for the winter. The wool is typically obtained from sheep living in the surrounding mountains.
The Islamic religion is also a key factor in the way that Moroccan people dress. The djellaba covers the whole body and is therefore an acceptable modest outfit for both men and women.

How to Travel to Morocco From the USA
Morocco offers much more than just long stretches of arid desert. Visit this North African country not only for its rich history, vibrant culture and long-standing traditions, but also for the beauty and intrigue of its landscape and wilderness. With more than 40 different ecosystems, Morocco is home to great animal and plant life diversity. Many of the animals in the country are endangered, in part to city expansion, but national parks and preserves as well as vast expanses of forest allow for numerous mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians.

Morocco's Coastline
Morocco's coastline stretches along both the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. Coastal cities like Tangiers, Casablanca, Essaouira and Safi offer plenty of opportunities for tourists to view marine life, including dolphins, porpoises, sea birds and the extremely endangered Mediterranean monk seal. Souss-Massa National Park, a bird refuge, sits along the River Massa, which runs into the Atlantic Ocean. The endangered bald ibis is one of the park's frequent visitors. The river itself is home to large populations of ducks, including the marbled duck and the red-crested pochard, as well as mammals like the Algerian hedgehog, brown hare and African wild cat and a host of reptiles and amphibians.
Desert Wildlife
The western Sahara lies within Morocco and despite its extreme heat during the daylight hours, it is home to a wide variety of animal species. Tourists taking camel-trekking tours of the Moroccan desert may get the chance to see animals like the Dorcas gazelle, the smallest gazelle in the world, or the Fennec fox, the smallest fox in the world. These animals are often most active in the early mornings and the evenings, staying hidden during the day because of the scorching temperatures. Other Moroccan desert animals include rodents, snakes, gerbils, golden jackals, addax and lizards.
Atlas and Rif Mountains
Morocco's Atlas and Rif mountains were once home to the Barbary lion, now nearly extinct. Parc Zoologique National in Morocco's capital city, Rabat has a breeding program for this lion species. If you plan to take part in a mountain trekking tour, you may get an opportunity to see other indigenous, mountain-residing creatures like the Barbary macaque, a primate; wild boars; eagles; cardinals; lizards and butterflies.
Plant Life in Morocco
Morocco is home to diverse plant species that are found all throughout the country. Visitors to the coastal regions will likely encounter plants like casuarina, eucalyptus, loquat and acacia. Morocco's mountainous areas are home to forest plants and trees, including the cork oak, evergreen oak, holm oak, juniper, cedar, fir and pine. Visit the plains to find cork oaks, olive trees, argan-thorny trees, scrub brush and alfalfa grass.

court yard and fabulous types of gardens…
court yard and fabulous types of gardens…
In the North African land of Morocco, every dar-dwelling, religious institution, or commercial building is organized around an interior… walled courtyard that provides privacy from the bustle of urban streets and an outdoor space for social interaction and tranquil meditation. Over the course of centuries, ornamental schemes have evolved to incorporate not only native plant life but also intricate water features and patterned tile work known as zellij, all of central significance to the Moroccan culture and climate.
Vitally important for providing shade and catching breezes in an arid landscape, Moroccan gardens are designed and cultivated with vibrant color and aromatic plants. Court yards and the gardens, author Achva Benzinberg Stein explores the three main types of gardens—the simple and elegant paved patio form of the ouest ed-dar, the more elaborately planted riyad, and the agdal, an open, cultivated landscape. Striking color photographs, including numerous aerial views, show gardens and courtyards in Marrakech, Fez, and elsewhere.
