An adventurous trek in rural Morocco taking you into untouched regions of the Atlas Mountains for a real insight into the traditional mountain community culture and some great views on the way! Walking beyond the reach of vehicles, assisted by mules to carry the load, you envelop yourself in the real Morocco.
Beautiful Bougmez valley with impressive gorges and rocks formations. Your trekking culminates with the chance to climb Jebel Mgoun(4068m) for spectacular sweeping views across the Atlas before completing the circle by returning to the Bougmez valley . In complete contrast to the peace of the mountains
 
6 Days Mgoun Circle Trek :
Day 1:Drive from Marrakech to Agouti In the morning, we transfer by minibus to Agouti There is time to relax at the guesthouse in agouti when we arrive in the late afternoon.
Day 2:Agouti to Arous Camp overnight.
Day 3:Trek to Tarkedit Plateau We walk up in a wild landscape before crossing the Aghouri pass at 3,450m then descend to the wind-eroded and snow-covered high plateau of Tarkedit (2,900m). After lunch (there is a hut on the plateau), we climb up to the southern side of the plateau and establish a camp at 3,400m, directly below M'goun West (3,978m). 7-8 hours walking. Camp.
Day 4:Ascent of Djebel M'goun (4,068m) to Oulilimt Today we make our ascent to the summit of Djebel M'goun. The climb follows a long ridge, all at or above 4,000m, which typically takes between 4 and 5 hours to the summit, depending on snow conditions. From the top, there are impressive views across the Draa valley and towards the Sahara Desert to the south. We descend back to Azib Izabine. 8-9 hours. Camp.
Day 5:Trek Down the valley into Ain Aflafal and to Tighermet n ait ahmed ( 5hours walking) Camp.
Day 6:Climb Tizi n'ait Imi (2960m) then long descent to ait Bougmez valley and drive back to Marrakech

Djebel M'goun - the only 4,000m+ summit outside of the Toubkal region in the Atlas. Slowly acclimatising, we trek over passes, past waterfalls and through remote valleys to arrive at the peak. The views from the summit towards the Sahara are unforgettable. After making our way back to Marrakech, we transfer across to Azib n'Ikkis, which marks the start of the trek in to Mgoun. By now everyone should be well acclimatised and fit to climb the col of Tarkedit (3450m), which offers spectacular views above Tarkeddit plat.
Itinerary
Day 01 : Arrived at Marrakech, Reception by our staff, Hotel.
Day 02 : Marrakech-Azilal-Tizin Oughbar (2200m) - valley Ait Abbes-Valley Ait Bouguemmaz - Azib n Ikkis (2300m) - camp.3H walking
Day 03 : Azib n Ikkis (2300m) - col de Tarkedit (3450m) - descent towards Plateau Tarkedit (2900m)5H30 walking
Day04 : Ascension (facultative) to Summit Mgoun (4068 m) - Descent towards Sources Oulilimt (2600m).8H30 walking
Day 05 : Sources of oulilimt - Sources Afelafal then Tighremt'n Ait Ahmed ( point of old caravaniers) - Camp.5h walking.
Day 06 : Tighremt n Ait Ahmed- Col Ait Imi (2900 m) - descent towards Ait Imi (1900 m) - Valley Ait Bouguemmaz.

Day 07 : visit around the berber village of the beautiful valley Ait Bouguemmaz , discovring others valleys - Return to Marrakech

Climate:  dryness and heat in spring, cold the night in possible winter storm

  Trek - Mgoun Ascent - 5 days / 4 nights
 
Day 1 :  Arrival to Marrakech airport, welcome & transfer to the Riad at the heart of the medina. Diner on your own.
Day 2 :  07.30 transfer by road from your hotel in Marrakech to the remote Ait Bougmez Valley in the High Atlas (about 4.5 hours drive with picnic lunch en-route). Overnight at Dar Itrane Lodge near Imelghas Village (1,800 m) or another gite nearby.
Day 3 :  about 6 hours walking Cross the Ait Bougmez Valley towards Agouti village and then down to the Ait Bouli Valley. Continue along the Lakhdar Valley and camp overnight near Abachkou (1,600 m).
Day 4 :  about 7 hours walking Continue to n' Rougoult village and then climb a narrow path to the small village of Ifri n' Ait Kherfalla. Overnight camp near the Ifri (2,500 m).
Day 5 :  about 5 hours walking Continue on through a pass (3,000 m) climbing and descending to the Arous Valley. Overnight camp near Ikkis summer shelters for shepherds (2,200 m). Later in the afternoon visit the Arous Gorges.
Day 6 :  Walk back to the Bougmez Valley where you will be met by your driver and vehicle near the village of Tirouza for the return drive to your hotel in Marrakech with picnic en-route. Arrive Marrakech about 6.30 p.m
Day 7 : Marrakech, free day to explore the medina, souks, square Jemaa Elfna & historical monuments.
Day 8 : After break fast pick up & transfer to the airport.

The Mgoun mountains offer amazing treks with magnificent views, hidden villages, dramatic gorges, and a glimpse of Berber culture. The trek from the Ait Bougmez valley to the summit of Djebel Mgoun shows you a less crowded corner of Morocco than some of the more popular High Atlas routes. Mgoun Trekking
With its 4068m, Mount M’goun is the second highest peak of the Atlas Mountains. It has a very different landscape from Toubkal mixing mountains, high cliffs and wide valleys thoroughly cultivated.

This trip is runing along M'goun river and its fields, inhabitants and high Kasbahs. The natural landscaps are very famous : Gorges of M'goun, mountains....



M'goun Trekking Day to day trip itinerary
Day 01: Airoport - Marrakech
Arrival at Menara airport, assistance and transfer to your hotel, dinner and nigh, you would be received by our representative and then transfer to hotel.
Day 02: Marrakech - Ikkiss N'arrouss
Visit of some of North’s Africa largest waterfalls. Crossing of Aghbar pass with panoramic view of the M’Goun range. Discovery of Aït Abbas Valley (red valley), and then arrival at Aït Bougmmaz Valley (happy valley). Meeting with our mule drivers and then immediate departure for the trek. Crossing Arous village. Camping near a sheep pasture and a spring.
Day 03: Ikkiss N'arouss - Plateau Talguedit 2900m
Crossing Aghrow pass with view of the highest crest of M’Goun (4068 m). Camping in the pastures.
Day 04: Plateau Talguedit - Oulilimte
Ascent of the highest peak in the region : the M’Goun. We follow a small pass, and then a long curved and comfortable crest to discover the Atlas and desert world. People who prefer to not ascend this mountain can follow the mule team towards the campground. Meeting with nomads and their dromedaries. Camping near the spring of the wadi M’Goun.
Day 05: Oulilimte - Ait Hemd Kasbah 2250m
Easier trek with the possibility to go trough the gorge of Oulilimt. Camping near the wadi M’Goun and the Aït Ahmed Kasbah.
Day 06: Ait Hemd Kasbah - Imi N'rekt 1920m
We will walk along the M’Goun via an excellent path with no difficult streches and discover the Berber villages of Taghreft (2150 m), Waouchki and Ighrem Izdaren. We can see irrigated terraces and small farms where apples and potatoes are cultivated. Camping near the river at the entrance of the gorge.
Day 07: Imi N'rekt - Tighanimine 1790m
We will reach the most spectacular part of the M’goun gorge, which is protected under the national preservation program. The gorge creates a very long canyon of 1500 m. During this section, we will continue the trek exclusively in the water and creek beds ( River or Valley M’Goun). Overnight with local people .
Day 08: Tighanimine - Bouteghrare 1580m
Now the path crosses the river without stopping and we will reach the pretty village of Boutaghrar (gateway to the desert) after the Berber villages of Aguerzaka (1730 m), Issoumar (1680 m) and Timglouna (1605 m) (outstanding Ksars and Kasbahs). Night in a gite.
Day 09: Bouteghrare - Ouarzazate - Marrakech
We will cross the little town of Kalaat Mgouna (Roses Valley), then Ouarzazate (capital of the desert). We will cross the road pass of Tizi N'Tichka (2260 m). Night in hotel or Ryad in Marrakech.
Day 10: Marrakech - Airoport
We ensure a transfer and assistance with formalities at Menara airport, the schedules of your flight should allow it this time.
