Marrakech, known as the red city, is a city in southern Morocco, which also borders the Sahara. Marrakech is one of the four imperial cities of Morocco, along with Fes, Meknes and Rabat. The city lies on the fertile Haouz plain at the foot of the High Atlas. Marrakech was founded in 1062 by Yusuf Ibn Tashfin and it was at that time the capital of the empire of the Almoravids. The city served as an important trading center on the caravan routes in the Sahara.


The city and its surroundings for visitors seem often the setting of a story from the Thousand and One Nights. The red city is visited for decades by bigger stars to the earth which invariably reflected in the annual list of the most beautiful places the world of the NY Times. Within the city walls is the Djemaa el Fna square to find what is popular for its exotic atmosphere. There are also many palaces and mosques to visit some over 800 years old as the Koutoubia Mosque and Ben Youssuf Madrassa.Behalve the imposing buildings, ensuring the paradise gardens of constant wonderment and fascination to the visitors as the Menara Majorelle gardens and the garden where the latter was owned by Yes Saint Laurent.
